Remember in “The Dark Knight” when Batman used cellphone signals as a type of sonar to find the bad guys? It may not be as far-fetched as it seems. The Atlantic recently posted a story discussing the many uses of Wi-Fi signals, including identifying individuals in a room (even behind walls!), knowing what keys someone was pressing, and monitoring the heartbeats of people in a room — all derived from the Wi-Fi signals that are bouncing all around us. As the article suggests, this could be an easy way to keep track of kids and other individuals. However, with this technology in the wrong hands, it wouldn’t be Batman we need to worry about. At Systeem, we keep developments like this on our radar and will keep you informed of any potential healthcare implications.
